On his blog, Sam Harris has posted a powerful commentary on guns. His position is not readily pigeon-holed as pro or anti gun, but rather he concedes certain realities and necessities with his customary rationality, logic and clarity. I find myself not always comfortable with his conclusions and positions, but I am nevertheless in essentially complete agreement.
I've chosen one paragraph from his commentary which seems to me right to the point:

James Forestall. The first US Secretary of Defense. Died from a fall from the 16th story window of a psych hospital. Some (many) say it was suicide. He was being treated for depression after being fired as Secretary of Defense by Truman.

In an opinion that appears to go far beyond legalizing possession of marijuana, the supreme court in Argentina has ruled in a case concerning five young men arrested with marijuana on them. The Argentine supreme court said, to quote the BBC:
- "Each adult is free to make lifestyle decisions without the intervention of the state"
- private behavior was legal, "as long as it doesn't constitute clear danger"
- "The state cannot establish morality"
