Argentina rules on marijuana possession

In an opinion that appears to go far beyond legalizing possession of marijuana, the supreme court in Argentina has ruled in a case concerning five young men arrested with marijuana on them. The Argentine supreme court said, to quote the BBC:

  • "Each adult is free to make lifestyle decisions without the intervention of the state"
  • private behavior was legal, "as long as it doesn't constitute clear danger"
  • "The state cannot establish morality"

This makes it official:  Argentina is more progressive than America.

Argentina seems to have survived Juan Perón.  Maybe we can survive from Bush & Cheney.  Given time.
